How to fix a Garmin Forerunner 110 with a blank screen (dead)

Garmin Forerunner 110 dead with no display: how to fix
The symptoms of the problem are a blank screen with no response from the device when you press any of the buttons or plug in the charger. This is a common issue and there are a number of ways that have been reported to resolve it. I have consolidated these into one blog in a hope it will help.

Try these steps in order to resolve the problem:

1-Try reattaching the charging clip by making contact with the pins on the back, moving the the connections before releasing the grip on the charger.
2-Clean the connections. Use cotton buds and an alcohol based cleaner to clean the 4 contacts on the Forerunner that the charging clip connects to. Also make sure the charging clips contacts are clean as well.
3-If you are using a USB mains charger disconnect the USB cable and try to charge it on your computers USB. See if your computer recognises your Forerunner and start charging it. If it does you many have a bad mains USB charger.
4-Plug in the charger and attach it to the Forerunner. Hold down the light button for 7-10 seconds- There’s just about enough room to press the light button with the charger connected. Try this a few times.
5-Press and hold all four buttons down at once on the Forerunner for 7-10 seconds. Try this with and without the charger connected.
6-Hold down the “Mode” and “Reset” buttons at the same time and then press the “Power” button to turn the Forerunner on.
7-Hold down the “Mode” and “Reset” buttons at the same time with the charger connected to the Forerunner but not the computer/charger. With the buttons depressed plug the usb end of the charge cable in.

Finally there is a fix to this in Firmware release 2.70 for the Garmin Forerunner. Visit this page to find out about updating the firmware on your Forerunner 110.

If you find another method of reviving a dead Forerunner 110 please let me know and I will add it to the blog.
